Century Old

There is a rose bush in San Jose Heritage Garden, which is more than a century old and still blossoms. The trunk is thick like a tree and gnarled, the flowers are small and simple, but the very fact that it still blossoms at that age is astonishing. This wire sculpture is my tribute to the Old Rose — and to everyone who still found a reason to go forward, and to blossom despite the crush of passing time.

The base of the sculpture is created from reclaimed wood, which almost matches the color of the trunk of the old rose. Pyrography depicts the leaves surrounding the blossom.
